Leaving the Nest Better than How it was Found How One Person’s Dedication to Feathered Friends Influenced the Need for a Convenient Solution
Steven Campbell bought his first home on Little River Drive in Hillsborough, North Carolina in 1992 and lived there until 1997. During this time he collected more than a dozen large parrots, chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys. After many neighbors voiced concerns about the growing feathered friends, Steven decided it was time to “fly the coup” and buy a farm in northern Alamance County where he’d have more room to live and build a bird sanctuary.
He liked his house and his neighbors on Little River Drive, so Steven decided to not sell. Instead he decided to hold it as rental property. After renting the home for 13 years, he paid off the mortgage. By 2010, with no mortgage payment and a great tenant, Steven decided to put selling the property on the back burner.
“When my tenant gave notice at the end of 2014, I did a walkthrough of the home and realized I would need to make some upgrades and repairs to re-rent it. I work full time and I manage my small farm/bird sanctuary, so my free time is limited,” said Steven “Birdman” Campbell.
The week before Steven’s tenant moved out, he received a letter in the mail from HomeVestors. Not giving it much thought, he put the letter aside. The next week, Steven realized he did not have the time required to make the repairs and oversee the contractors. That’s when he decided to call the number in the letter and was introduced to Adam
Schneider, a Raleigh North Carolina HomeVestors Franchisee. “Adam came to view the property that same week and I was nervous he was going to tell me all of the things that were wrong with it,” said Steven. “Imagine how surprised I was when he made me an offer to buy the home as-is. I accepted the offer.”
“The house was definitely in need of repairs, but I liked the house because of its potential and location,” said Schneider. “I was glad Steven let me explain my plan to purchase and rehab the property. He understood that this would ultimately make a positive impact in his community.”
Steven sold his home to Adam in less than one month. Steven saved valuable time because Adam provided a convenient and efficient service.
“HomeVestors was a perfect fit for my situation. I had limited free time and Adam had a trusted crew of contractors ready to start working the moment we signed the papers. It was a win-win situation for both of us,” said Steven.
